Located in Cheongdam-dong, it’s a paid-membership library. Many people know about it now, but there are still plenty who haven’t experienced it yet. SOJEONSEOLIM is a library dedicated to literature. Unlike conventional libraries that organize books by genre or subject, this one is arranged by author. The space is furnished with a variety of furniture and reading environments, thoughtfully designed to respect the personal preferences of its visitors. SOJEONSEOLIM is not only a library but also a literary community. It hosts lectures on the humanities, reading performances, exhibitions, and book clubs. On October 31, it will present a reading of Roadkill in the Theater under the theme “Library at Night.” The play reflects on human perceptions of animal death. What’s fascinating is that SOJEONSEOLIM doesn’t stop at preserving classical literature—it poses the question of what a “future classic” might be. It discovers emerging writers and introduces their novels in its “Classics of Tomorrow” series. Their “Reading People” campaign, created to encourage the collective reading of classics, is particularly memorable.
